Adding sand to both FRP grating and cover plates can improve their anti-slip performance. FRP grating has two anti-slip measures: internal and external sand. FRP cover plates mostly have printed patterns on the surface. This chapter mainly introduces the relevant knowledge of surface-sanded FRP cover plates.
The manufacturer makes the bottom FRP grating and the top cover plate separately. The production of the flat cover plate includes mixing sand, but the FRP grating does not include sand. (You need to adhere the FRP grating and the flat cover plate together, so do not mix fine sand into the FRP grating.)
1.
Raw materials needed for the flat cover plate include:
Glass fiber mat
Fiber grid cloth
Resin
Fine sand
Note: The design limits the thickness of the flat cover plate, so you should use fine sand as much as possible.
2. Grind the surface that will adhere to the flat cover plate to ensure a smooth contact surface. Clean it thoroughly to keep the contact surface clean (try not to affect the adhesion).
3. Completion: Adhere the flat cover plate to the FRP grating. You need enough pressure for fixation. Urban greening typically uses surface-sanded FRP cover plates. These include manhole, water channel, and trench covers on roads.
