Poor temperature resistance: The long-term temperature resistance of fiberglass grating is limited. For example, general polyester fiberglass grating’s strength drops above 50 ℃. It is usually only used below 100 ℃. The universal epoxy fiberglass grating’s strength drops significantly above 60 ℃.

Low elastic modulus: Compared to steel, fiberglass grating has a lower elastic modulus. Its elastic modulus is twice that of wood, but 10 times smaller than steel. So, it often feels too weak in products and deforms.

Weak UV protection ability: The UV protection performance of fiberglass grating is average. Prolonged outdoor sunlight will damage the resin and UV absorber on the surface. This will age the product and hurt its look and lifespan.

Low interlayer shear strength: Fiberglass grating has low interlayer shear strength. It mainly relies on resin to bear it.

Construction is difficult. Opening tees and repairing pipeline cracks on the fiberglass grating require completely dry, factory-like conditions. The resin and fiber cloth need 7-8 hours to cure. It’s often hard to achieve this in on-site construction.

The existing underground pipeline detection equipment mainly detects metal pipelines. It cannot find non-metallic ones, like buried fiberglass grating. This increases the risk of damage to pipelines during excavation by construction teams.

Aging phenomenon: Fiberglass grating degrades under UV light, weather, and stress.

Low value of secondary recycling: Currently, fiberglass grilles have no value for recycling. This reduces theft risk but raises costs.

Poor corrosion resistance: In corrosive environments, fiberglass grilles may crack, deform, or become brittle. Especially in humid and high-temperature environments, corrosion is more likely to occur.
